Designing for Complexity: The KanDDDinsky 2026 Pre-Conference Masterclasses

Alessandra Granaudo Events Jun 17, 2026

The Workshops Line up Just Dropped!

As software ecosystems grow more interconnected, traditional development and architecture approaches are hitting their limits.
Engineering teams in 2026 are facing a unique intersection of challenges: aligning organizational topologies for optimal flow, managing operational complexity in platform engineering, and responsibly integrating autonomous AI agents into durable systems design.

To help tech leaders navigate these shifts, we are is proud to return (after the first time in 2025) as the official co-organizer of the KanDDDinsky 2026 Pre-Conference Workshops in Berlin on October 12-13, 2026.

The 2026 Pre-Conference Lineup: 5 Practical, Hands-on Tracks

๐Ÿ“… October 12 - 13, Berlin

This year's lineup features five intensive, two-day Masterclasses designed for Software Developers, Systems Architects, Tech Leads, and Product Managers who need to bridge the gap between high-level strategy and production-ready implementation.

Here is your deep dive into the 2026 workshop tracks, led by pioneering global practitioners:

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Architecture for Flow Masterclass, with Susanne Kaiser
๐ŸŒ Complexity-Informed Platform Design Workshop, with Dr. Jabe Bloom
๐Ÿค– The Agentic Developer Masterclass, with Marco Heimeshoff
๐Ÿค Collaborative Software Modelling and Design with Bytesize Sessions, with Andrea Magnorsky
๐Ÿ”ถ EventStorming Master Class, with Alberto Brandolini

Design Adaptive Socio-Technical Systems with Wardley Mapping, Domain-Driven Design, and Team Topologies

Most organizational changes fail because they focus on local optimization, fixing a single team here or a microservice there, while the overall system performance remains stagnant. Organizations are complex, interacting socio-technical systems where business strategy, software architecture, and team structures must align into a single, adaptive engine.

Led by Susanne Kaiser (author of Architecture for Flow, 2025), this 2-day intensive deep dive teaches you how to bridge the gap between high-level strategy and ground-level execution using the "Power Triad": Wardley Mapping, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and Team Topologies. You will experience how to apply the Architecture for Flow Canvas to your specific company context.

  • Key Learning Objectives: Visualize business landscapes with Wardley Maps; categorize the problem space with DDD subdomains to prioritize strategic investments; modularize the solution space using Bounded Contexts and EventStorming; and align future teams using Team Topologies.
  • Target Audience: CTOs, VPs of Engineering, Software Architects, Technical Leads, Product Leaders, Engineering Managers, and Transformation Coaches.

๐ŸŒ Complexity-Informed Platform Design Workshop, with Dr. Jabe Bloom

Designing Sustainable Platform Topologies for Application, Platform, and Infrastructure Developers and Operators

Platform initiatives frequently fail because they optimize exclusively for shipping (the Development Lifecycle - DLC) rather than running, thereby externalizing unmanaged operational complexity onto downstream operators. To enhance systemic flow, systems architects must pivot their attention toward the Operational Lifecycle (OLC).

Designed by Dr. Jabe Bloom, a prominent figure working at the intersection of philosophy, complexity science, and software engineering, this active workshop explores a multi-temporal, deeply socio-technical approach to platform design based on the Three Economies framework (Differentiation, Scale, and Scope).

  • Key Learning Objectives: Apply the Three Economies framework to design platform capabilities matching organizational pace layers; analyze friction between DLC and OLC across application, platform, and infrastructure layers; and evaluate architectural tradeoffs and structural costs of change by designing and decomposing complex infrastructure primitives (e.g., Database-as-a-Service / DBaaS). Includes an interactive Platform Domain Canvas mapping session and a Red/Blue Team Simulation to stress-test platform designs.
  • Target Audience: Principal Architects, Systems Engineers, Technical Directors, and Executives looking to eliminate operational drag and align platform topology with actual business subdomains.

๐Ÿค– The Agentic Developer Masterclass, with Marco Heimeshoff

Stop prompting. Start engineering with intent.

AI tools change rapidly, but the engineering principles surrounding them remain durable. This advanced masterclass is built around harness engineering: the practice of building and tuning the whole system around an LLM model so it produces reliable work, stays inside your token budget, and survives the next model release.

Led by Marco Heimeshoff (co-founder of KanDDDinsky and creator of Agentheim and WhisperHeim), this 2-day workshop blends 15 years of DDD practice with cutting-edge agentic workflows. You will discover how modeling and intent turn an AI agent from a fast typist into a dependable programming pair that understands what the software is actually for.

  • Key Learning Objectives: Trace the progression from prompt engineering to context engineering to harness engineering; master the anatomy of Claude Code and Codex setups (CLAUDE.md, skills, agents, commands, plugins, hooks); prevent context rot and optimize token usage; apply core agentic working patterns (prompt chaining, routing, parallelization, orchestration, evaluator-optimizer, bookend pattern); and navigate governance, observability, EU AI Act compliance, and local LLMs on an open harness.
  • Target Audience: Advanced developers, tech leads, and architects who regularly code, are comfortable in a terminal, and want to build dependable, scalable agentic systems rather than one-off demos.

๐Ÿค Collaborative Software Modelling and Design with Bytesize Sessions, with Andrea Magnorsky

Convergence over consensus: Learn when to design together, when to work alone and how to make both work

Andrea Magnorsky on a stage while giving a talk

Opening up the software design process often grinds progress to a halt, driving teams back to solo work, back-room decisions, and knowledge silos. Navigating high uncertainty requires the ability to share deep context and design together efficiently.

Led by Andrea Magnorsky, New Zealand-based software architecture expert and creator of Bytesize Architecture Sessions, this 2-day hands-on intensive teaches you how to use time-boxed, structured sessions to generate real insight fast. You will combine structural and strategic DDD tools to build a concrete decision framework regarding when to collaborate and when solo work delivers better results.

  • Key Learning Objectives: Apply Bytesize Architecture Sessions to structure collaborative modeling within and across teams; utilize the C4 model for clear, structured architectural communication; and work through the key steps of the DDD Starter Modelling Process (including EventStorming and Context Maps) in practice.
  • Target Audience: Staff Engineers, Architects, Technical Project Managers (TPMs), Product Managers, and individual contributors who work across team boundaries and need to share system context effectively.

๐Ÿ”ถ EventStorming Master Class, with Alberto Brandolini

Putting business, software, and user experience experts on the same page!

EventStorming is the de-facto standard family of workshop formats that leverages natural storytelling and an event-driven structure to explore, map, and design complex business flows. It is the fastest way to make everyone's understanding visible to unlock faster problem resolution.

Led by Alberto Brandolini, the creator of EventStorming and founder of Avanscoperta, this legendary 2-day Master Class delves into the three main formats (Big Picture, Process Modelling, and Software Design) using a realistic problem space, exploring how it's the developer's understanding, not just the expert's knowledge, that becomes working code.

  • Key Learning Objectives: Master large-scale domain discovery, reading implicit room signals, managing conflicts, and highlighting risks; leverage the flexible, colorful grammar to ask uncomfortable questions and make business policies explicit; discover system boundaries and transition from EventStorming to Bounded Contexts and Aggregates; and blend User Experience Design and Service Design into modern event-driven software architecture.
  • Target Audience: Interdisciplinary roles including Software Professionals, Tech Architects, UX/UI Experts, Business Experts, and Facilitators looking to master the soft skills of running an in-person session.
